Quick Overview
RentMouse supports multiple application paths so you can collect applications in the way that works best for each tenant. The fastest method is sharing a direct unit application link.
Method 1: Send a Direct Application Link (Recommended)
This is the easiest and most reliable way to send applications.
Step 1: Make Sure the Unit Has a Form Assigned
- Go to Landlord Dashboard > Application Forms.
- Create or publish an application form.
- Assign that form to the target unit.
If no form is assigned, tenants will not be able to submit online.
Step 2: Generate and Copy the Link
- In Application Forms, open the Share option.
- Select the unit you want to accept applications for.
- Copy the generated link.
The link format is:
/apply?unitId=YOUR_UNIT_ID
Step 3: Send It to Prospects
Share the link by email, text message, listing descriptions, or QR code flyers.
Method 2: Tenant Applies from the Public Listing Page
On listing pages, tenants can click Apply Now. If they are not logged in, they are sent to their landlord portal flow first, then returned to the application form after signing in.
This flow also ends at the same unit-specific application page.
Method 3: Tenant Applies Through a Landlord Portal Link
If you share your landlord portal URL (for example, /portal/your-landlord-id), tenants can:
- Open the correct landlord portal page.
- Sign in with the access you provided to them.
- Return to the application form for the selected unit.
This is useful when you want every tenant application to start from the correct landlord-specific portal.
Method 4: Existing Renters Apply from Their Properties View
Logged-in renters browsing available units from their renter area can click Apply Now and submit directly.
When Online Apply Is Not Available
If a unit does not have a published application form, tenants may see Contact to Apply instead of Apply Now. In that case, either:
- Assign/publish a form and resend the link, or
- Collect the application offline (email/PDF/in person).
Troubleshooting
Tenant sees "Invalid Application Link"
Check that all required query values are present and the unit/form still exists.
Tenant cannot submit
Confirm all required form fields are completed and the unit has an active application form.
Wrong unit on the form
Regenerate the link and confirm you selected the correct unit before sharing.
Best Practices
- Always test your application link in a private browser window before sending it.
- Use one unique link per unit so applications are routed correctly.
- Keep at least one backup application method (email/PDF) for prospects who need assistance.
