Fix Stuff AI is designed for everyone. We believe everyone deserves the ability to fix things themselves, regardless of ability. Here’s how we make that possible.
Our Commitment to Inclusive Design
Accessibility isn’t an afterthought at Fix Stuff AI — it’s a core design principle. We follow Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for accessibility and target WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance across the app. We continuously test with assistive technologies and welcome feedback from users of all abilities to improve the experience.
Supported Features
Seven accessibility pillars built into every screen of Fix Stuff AI.
VoiceOver
Full screen reader support for blind and low-vision users.
Fix Stuff AI is fully compatible with Apple VoiceOver. Every button, label, image, and interactive element includes descriptive accessibility labels so you can navigate the entire app using gestures and spoken feedback. Repair instructions, cost breakdowns, and AI analysis results are all read aloud clearly and in logical order.
All UI elements include descriptive accessibility labels
Logical reading order for repair instructions and results
Image descriptions for AI-analyzed photos
Rotor support for quick navigation between headings and controls
Custom VoiceOver actions for common repair workflows
Voice Control
Navigate and interact hands-free using your voice.
Designed for users who navigate their device entirely by voice. All buttons and controls are labeled and reachable via Voice Control commands. Whether your hands are occupied mid-repair or you rely on voice input for accessibility, Fix Stuff AI responds to spoken commands throughout the app.
All interactive controls are accessible by name
Numbered overlay support for precise element selection
Voice-driven camera capture for repair photos
Hands-free navigation through repair steps
Compatible with custom voice commands
Larger Text
Dynamic Type support scales text to your preferred size.
Fix Stuff AI fully supports iOS Dynamic Type. Text across the app — including repair instructions, part names, cost estimates, and navigation labels — scales smoothly to match your system font size preference. Layouts adapt gracefully to accommodate larger text without clipping or overlapping content.
Supports all Dynamic Type sizes including Accessibility sizes
Layouts reflow to accommodate larger text gracefully
No truncation of critical repair information
Readable at every size from xSmall to AX5
Pinch-to-zoom available on detailed repair views
Dark Interface
A carefully designed dark theme that reduces eye strain.
Fix Stuff AI includes a purpose-built dark interface that follows your system appearance setting automatically. The dark theme uses carefully chosen contrast ratios, muted backgrounds, and soft accent colors to reduce eye strain in low-light environments — perfect for repairs in dimly lit spaces like basements, attics, or under sinks.
Automatic light/dark switching based on system settings
WCAG AA contrast ratios maintained in both themes
Reduced brightness for comfortable use in dark environments
Optimized for OLED displays to minimize power consumption
All charts, icons, and images adapt to the active theme
Differentiate Without Color Alone
Information is never conveyed by color alone.
Every piece of information in Fix Stuff AI is communicated through multiple visual cues — not just color. Status indicators use icons and text labels alongside color. Repair difficulty levels display both a label and a symbol. Cost comparisons include numerical values, not just colored bars. This ensures users with color vision deficiencies can access all content equally.
Status indicators pair color with icons and text labels
Repair difficulty shown with labels, icons, and color combined
Charts and graphs include patterns and data labels
Error and success states use icons in addition to color
Interactive elements are distinguishable by shape and border, not just hue
Sufficient Contrast
Text and controls meet WCAG AA contrast standards.
All text, icons, and interactive controls in Fix Stuff AI meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast requirements (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components). This applies to both light and dark themes, ensuring readability for users with low vision or those using the app in bright outdoor conditions.
Body text meets 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio
Large text and headings meet 3:1 minimum contrast ratio
Interactive UI components meet 3:1 against adjacent colors
Focus indicators are clearly visible in both themes
Tested across a range of display brightness levels
Captions
Video tutorials include captions for deaf and hard-of-hearing users.
Repair tutorial videos within Fix Stuff AI display captions so deaf and hard-of-hearing users can follow along. When available, videos include closed captions sourced from the content provider. The app also presents repair steps as readable text alongside any video content, so no critical information requires audio.
Closed captions displayed on tutorial videos when available
All repair steps available as readable text independent of video
Caption styling respects system accessibility preferences
Audio-described content supplemented with on-screen text
No critical information conveyed through audio alone
