Security Deposit Rules

  • Maximum Limit: 1 month rent.
  • Remittance: Must be sent to Service New Brunswick (SNB) within 15 days of receiving it. Landlords cannot hold it.
  • Return Process: Tenant applies to SNB for return. Landlord has 7 days to claim against it.
  • Pet Fees: Additional pet deposits are not mentioned in the Act, generally capped within the 1 month total.
