Handling rental inquiries and spam
Renters contact you through a spam-protected form. You get an email you can reply to, and every inquiry is kept in RentMouse.
Whenever someone sends a message from your public page or one of your listings.
Public page → Inquiries tab, and the email RentMouse sends to your contact address.
What happens when a renter writes
- The renter enters a name, email, an optional phone number and a message. When they write from a listing, the unit is attached.
- RentMouse emails you the inquiry. Replying to that email goes straight to the renter.
- The renter gets a confirmation email. If you chose to share your contact details, the confirmation includes them.
- The inquiry is saved on the Inquiries tab so nothing is lost in an inbox.
Your contact details
Under Contact details renters see, enter the email and phone number you want to use for your rentals. Inquiry emails go to that email address, or to the account owner's email if you leave it blank. Turn on Show my email and phone if you want them visible on the page and in the renter's confirmation; otherwise renters can only reach you through the form.
Keep track
Each inquiry starts as New. Mark it Contacted once you have replied and Closed when it is settled. Mark anything that is not a real renter as Spam to set it aside.
How spam is kept out
The form uses several quiet checks: a hidden field that people never fill in, a check that the form was not submitted instantly, limits on how often one connection or one account can send messages, and a bot challenge when it is switched on. Genuine renters do not have to do anything extra.
Personal information
An inquiry contains a person's contact details. Use them to answer the inquiry, and follow the privacy rules that apply to you when keeping or sharing them.
